Army Of Ducklings

It was beautiful march by the this pack of ducklings across the busy Anna Salai, Pondicherry which caught everybody’s attention notably dogs, whom the man directing these ducklings was keeping at bay with his bamboo stick.

Surprisingly when he stopped at one point while shooing away the dogs this pack also stopped, though the man was walking behind this pack. It was really surprising to note that this pack was following the movements of its master who was behind it.

Feb 2010 edition of GEO magazine carries a feature ‘The Intelligence of Swarms’ which tells how group behavior of some week species of animals and birds help them not just to survive but also to grow. An interesting read, it is for people who would like to know about the intelligence of nature in its myriad forms.

God's Gate Keeper

In Frame : Rani. Do we need to say who she is ? Rani is the elephant at Manarkul Vinayagar Temple at Pondicherry (Pondy) whom one can see the entrance of the temple. She has been trained to shower blessings on devotees who offer her money and eatables especially banana. On festivals she is beautifully decorated with colorful usually red and golden yellow robes and cloth sheets and carries the idols of Lord Ganesha along with the religious processions which passes through prominent streets of Pondy notable among them is JN Sreat and MG Road. Clicked in Aug 2008 at Manarkul Temple, Pondy during my first visit to the temple.

In Frame: A bell at the entrance of an inn at Har Ki Pauri - Haridwar While on the way to 'Har To Pauri' the sound of this bell made to take a notice of it. There is a famous saying in Hindi - " shankh ghant baje kal kant dur bhage" which means sounds of conch and bell drives away bad and difficult times. The street on its way to Har ki Pauri, is full of charitable inns and this bell is on the front door of one such inn. On its face its the sign of 'OM' and very fine drawings and a chain to ring it. It has been hanged exactly in way that it occupies the centre space on the face of entrace door. This bell face the east direction and on morning sun rays really adds an alluring charm togther with the sound of its ring. This picture was taken after diwali of 2009 when I visited Haridwar with my mother.
